Setting up a WAEC network

If we are to beat the cuts, then we must fight them locally. It is easy to feel very isolated if you are fighting the closure of your local nursery, but there will undoubtedly be some feminist activists who are fighting a similar battle nearby. By joining together in local networks, we can find the support that we need to effectively fight cuts at our institution.

The NUS Women’s Campaign is encouraging feminist activists in students’ unions to consider setting up a WAEC network which brings together feminist activists from across their area or region. We will offer you with all the support you need to get your local WAEC network off the ground.

Your WAEC network can be formed in whatever way you think is appropriate. You could just decide to run WAEC activities within your already existing women’s group, or you could decide to contact the women’s officers at institutions near to you to see if they are interested in starting up something new. You might also want to link up with anti-cuts groups on campus, or in your local community. We also encourage you to link up with Women Against the Cuts if they are organising near to you.

For more information on how to set up a WAEC network, you could look here where guidance on how to set up a grassroots anti-cuts campaign is due to be published soon.

Please fill out the below contact form. Your responses will be emailed to the NUS Women’s Campaign and we will get back to you directly.
